By Elaine Louise

Since its establishment in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company has brought us numerous outstanding timepieces. Its first watch designed by H.J. Cain was produced in 1893. It is a vintage pocket watch which is long expected by many people. In the same year, Hamilton Watch Company launched a railroad pocket watch of great durability called “The Broadway Limited”, especially made for the American Expeditionary Forces. Beside above two, there are still numerous masterpieces launched by this famous watch company with each one meaningful.

In 1928, the Yankees wristwatch was launched for the Yankees who won the World Series. Simultaneously, another renowned timepiece of high quality and fashion was introduced. These two watches were well received by many people and Hamilton watches began to be known for the public. From 1930, Hamilton started to serve the airlines with timepieces as the official supplier.

In 1940, the retail sales of Hamilton watches were stopped and this company focused its attention on manufacturing watches for the military. Just in WWII period, it produced nearly one million military watches.

In 1957, Hamilton Watch had an instant change and came with the first electric watch which marked the end of winding watches. In 1959, it got the inspiration from the Cadillac tailfins of the 1950s and produced a sleek watch which becomes the favorite of the fashionistas in the 50s. This fantastic timepiece was even chosen by Elvis Presley to wear in his movie Blue Hawaii.

Bearing their tradition of innovation, this company successfully created its first digital watch which was designed and manufactured in its Pennsylvania head office in 1972. All the facts prove that Hamilton comes with every kind of first watch. Therefore, each piece of Hamilton watch is within the dreaming list of many people with its specialty and uniqueness.

Hamilton Mens Watch H64512332

Hamilton Watch of Lancaster Pennsylvania began production of their original pocket watch in 1892. Their original design was a pocket watch specific to the burgeoning rail road industry. As tracks were laid and schedules increased so did the potential for head on collisions. Time pieces were critical for arrivals, departures, and collision avoidance. As war loomed over Europe in the early 20th century Hamilton Watch was honored to be the first wrist watch worn by “Black Jack” Pershing and troops that fought in the trenches and over the skies of the Great War. As a wartime supplier Hamilton Watches became well known for their accuracy, reliability and durability.

In the 1920′s this winning formula of accuracy, reliability, and durability established the “American Style” of watches. Solid and dependable these watches became the benchmark of time pieces and the growth of the industry. With a strong pedigree and stylish design Hamilton increased it’s presence in style and innovation.

Watches in wartime are invaluable for launching precise attacks, navigation, monitoring fuel use, estimating arrivals, and delivery of fuel and ammunition. Watches were used to calculate speed, time and distance for bombing raids, artillery barrages, and allied communication. We take the watch for granted today and know little of the history behind that valuable historical mechanism.

In World War Two, once again Hamilton came to serve the United States Armed Forces to provide over a million time pieces for our service men. American consumers understood that full production was to be dedicated to the war effort and could not buy a Hamilton watch at that time. The “Marine Chrono-meter” was introduced and about 10,000 were produced that saw combat action in the difficult fight in Europe and the Pacific. Modern manufacturing techniques were established that increased their watch production during World War Two and continues to this day although it’s ownership has changed.

After troops returned home these watches were worn with pride and can be found in antique stores and memorabilia shops today. Grandparents of the World War Two era are passing these treasures down to their sons and daughters too as a treasured family heirloom that served them throughout the world as they fought to preserve Americas freedom.

In the 1950′s a top secret was being devised by Hamilton engineers that would simply revolutionize the watchmaking industry. No other watch maker had a clue as to the nature of the secret, but soon after rigorous development every watchmaker in the world knew that a bar had been set much higher from that little innovative factory in Lancaster Pennsylvania.
